I don't get why he has to keep repeating the same thing for over 6 hours...and wouldn't the people get a little annoyed with the repetitiveness?

i think its the impression that it is giving off kinda like reading in between the lines

Because the Puritan's laws was according to the bible, so they believed in severe punishments
